This year the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) will held its World Library and Information Congress in Singapore from August 17-23. All the IFLA committees and groups will present programs about a myriad of topics speaking to all types of information professionals. I encourage you to read the programme and find the perfect sessions for you.
As a member of the Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning Standing Committee (CPDWL), Expert Resource Person of the Free Access of Information and Freedom of Expression Committee (FAIFE), and close advisor to IFLA New Professionals, I’d like to invite you to consider attending the following sessions:

“On the way to Freedom of access”
The FAIFE committee makes up an update of the trends in free access to information and freedom of expression and introduces several approaches on how to respond to tightening control of internet: legislative initiatives, policies and statements, as well as campaigns and networking to support freedom of information and privacy.
Our keynote speaker, Chris Chia, Senior Advisor/NTUC, Exec Chmn/NTUC Media, will discuss the “media control today.”
Others speakers will be:
– Päivikki Karhula (Chief Information Specialist at Parliament of Finland)
– Barbara Jones (Director of the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom)
– a representative from IFEX
– Herman Roesch (coordinator of the new IFLA Code of Ethics)
– Stuart Hamilton (Director, Policy & Advocacy at IFLA).
A special panel, entitled “Access in Asia”, will discuss controlled access in the region.
